Apart from Tanzania Youth Environmental Network (TAYEN), EWAT and other associations at Sokoine University of Agriculture, WISA-SUA is among the non-profit association which has taken a step to stand in the name of conservation. The Wildlife Students Association of Sokoine University of Agriculture (WISA-SUA) has a major objective of promoting and encouraging an interest in the conservation of wildlife within and outside the Sokoine University of Agriculture. Currently, WISA-SUA is an association for students pursuing studies in wildlife management course at SUA however the future focus of the association is to invite any person with interest and will in the natural resources conservation to join the association.
WISA-SUA is not a new association since it was established in February 2003 before it ceased for some time. Fortunately in the year 2010 some of the students with a desire to be involved in conservation activities revived it and gave it a chance to breathe again.
Currently the association has taken a step and it has conducted various activities within the campus to bring about awareness to other students in matters relating to conservation of resources and environment in general.
Among the blazing event is the conference debate that WISA-SUA conducted concerning the puzzle of Serengeti road project. The conference was held on 18th December 2010 within the campus with different delegates including students and expertise from various fields.
In 25th June 2011, the organization had its general meeting which had several agenda including election of new leadership and report for the annual performance of outgoing leadership. Mourice Mbunde, the general secretary for outgoing leadership read the report with the great appreciations to Samwel Shaba who was working hand to hand with the outgoing leadership to assist them in some official matters. More appreciations were dedicated to Mr. Christopher Sabuni, Ms Bideberi Gloria, Mr. Kauzeni Pellage and Mr.Wambura for their greatest support whenever required. At Last the secretary finished the report with a word of thanks to all members for their immediate response to every call, meeting and association activity.
After the report, election procedures proceeded in which Mwita Julius was elected again to cover the chairperson position, Alphonce Msigwa-Vice Chairperson, Amina Mtwike -General Secretary, Ezekiel Mathias Deputy Secretary, Mohammed Mpita -Treasurer, Anna Kimweri-Deputy Treasurer and Kiza Yusuph Baraga- the editor-in-chief. In their views, members expressed their hope for the newly elected leaders since they are potential people who can effectively manage to take WISA-SUA into new glory of achievement.
WISA-SUA is currently facing a number of challenges such as inadequate funds, low number of committed members and the challenge of getting enough time to organize events due to a tightening academic routine.
